U-Vint Operations on Nova Scotia

There are currently five known winemaking stores in Nova Scotia offering in-store winery services. Chances are there are several more stores who offer these same services behind closed doors. Despite the fact that all five known stores have recently received Cease & Desist letters from the NSLC, it’s business as usual for all of us.

As active members in the Nova Scotia craft wine industry, our goal remains to have in-store winery services legalized into a bona fide industry. Our reasons are simple: we wish to offer Nova Scotians the same services offered in other Canadian provinces, including our neighouring provinces, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island.

It has recently come to our attention that the Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act is being reviewed and many changes will be implemented into the Act. As stakeholders in the Nova Scotia craft wine industry, we have many concerns and wish to have input in the implementation of any changes which will impact our industry.

With this in mind we requested a letter be sent by the Canadian Craft Winemakers Association (CCWA) to Graham Steele, the minister responsible for the NSLC. The links below will direct you to a copy of the letter sent and to the response letter from Minister Steele.

Next month, in my October blog I will share in more detail the numerous concerns I have with the potential changes to the NSLC Act and the possible negative impact on our industry.
